St. Paul, Minnesota-based Dessert Holdings is getting a new owner. Bain Capital Private Equity is set to purchase Dessert Holdings from Gryphon Investors. Dessert Holdings is an umbrella company housing three different dessert businesses: The Original Cakerie, Lawler’s Desserts and Atlanta Cheesecake Company, which has an international reach. The transaction is expected to close during the second quarter and is subject to regulatory approvals. The management team at Dessert Holdings, which supplies the retail and foodservice channels, will remain in place, including CEO Paul Lapadat.

Acclaimed Twin Cities restauranteurs Josh Thoma and Kevin Fitzgerald are bringing three restaurants to downtown Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The owners known for concepts such as Burger Dive and Smack Shack plan to open the restaurants on the first floor of the office tower at The Steel District, the downtown redevelopment from Lloyd Cos. that recently announced plans to start construction this year. The tower will also include a coffee shop and fitness center. Earlier in his career, Thoma was instrumental in creating Minneapolis restaurants La Belle Vie, Bar La Grassa, Barrio and Solera. He was named Restauranteur of the Year by the Star Tribune and Mpls.St.Paul Magazine in 2009.

Loffredo Fresh Foods, the food distributor known for its delivery of fresh produce across the Midwest, announced a new distribution facility in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Iowa-based company began delivering to customers out of its new facility last August. The new location allows the business to better serve its customers and expand opportunities.

Peace Coffee celebrates its 25-year anniversary this summer. Peace Coffee also launched a limited-edition coffee, “Party Animal” on June 25, a light roast coffee with beans from Mexico and Honduras. A portion of the proceeds from this blend will be donated to the Carbon, Climate and Coffee Initiative and to Twin Cities nonprofits Reclaim, Lake Street Business Council and the Bicycle Alliance of Minnesota.

Locally owned and operated Purpose Driven Restaurants will open a second location of Hope Breakfast Bar in St. Louis Park in fall 2021. While the exact date of opening has not been pinned down, principal owner and co-founder Brian Ingram predicts they’ll open their doors before the first snowfall if everything goes as planned. This will be the first Purpose Driven Restaurants unit to be located outside of the Twin Cities metro area.
