Madison Restaurant Group, led by celebrated Chef Justin Sutherland, is moving out of state, opening Fire & Whiskey on South Knowles Avenue in Richmond, Wisconsin. Shannel Winkel, formerly with The Bird in Minneapolis, will be in charge of the kitchen.
Isaac Becker and Nancy St. Pierre are opening a pizzeria in the former Be’Wiched Deli site, down the street from their famed Bar La Grassa. Becker is a James Beard award-winning chef who also owns 112 Eatery and Burch Steak and Pizza. This new venture will be more of a “snack stop” for afternoon and late-night counter service, where slices of pizza will be on order, not whole pizzas or pasta dishes to die for—but there will, of course, be wine.
The Loon Cafe, a great spot for chili before or after games at Target Field and Center, is opening an outpost in St. Paul in the old Great Waters Brewing Co. location (next door to Meritage). The expected date to open is in mid-to late May,
Urban Wok, a food-on-demand kiosk, is looking to expand from Lowertown St. Paul to several locations in and around Minneapolis. Minneapolis may be just the first of many additional locations in urban cities across the U.S., according to the Business Journal.
Pittsburgh Blue Steakhouse, a partnership between Parasole and Titan Development & Investment, has opened in the Hilton Rochester Mayo Clinic Area Hotel. This is the first out-of-town location for the Minneapolis-based concept.
Wisconsin-based Culver’s restaurant chain, known for its ButterBurgers and fresh frozen custard, celebrated its 700th opening this week with a new restaurant in Chandler, Arizona.
Culver’s is currently in 25 states. The chain opened 46 new restaurants in 2018 and there are plans for 50 more in 2019.
Mintahoe Catering and Events opened its first owned events venue in early April at a landmark location with a storied past, Inwood Oaks, formerly the Prom Center in Oakdale. The location was purchased by Mintahoe last summer and remodeled over the last few months.
