Via a Facebook post, Jaime Gonzales posted he was closing his operation, Flagsmash, at Graze Provisions & Libations, a new food hall in the North Loop, and his kitchen at La Doña. “This is not an expected or easy change to make, and as always, we thank you for your support since our inception as a pop-up at random breweries and events. You showed us what we did mattered and that support can’t be packaged or purchased,” he said in his post. Flagsmash is known for its Megadilla, a quesadilla that includes battered French fries and meat. Calling it a “hiatus,” Gonzales concluded that “there is much more to come from us in the coming weeks — stay tuned.”

 

Austin, Minnesota-based Hormel Foods Corp. acquired Sadler’s Smokehouse, a pit-style barbecue brand from Texas for $270 million in its latest deal to help expand the company’s deli and foodservice business. Sadler’s Smokehouse, a major customer of Hormel’s for 20 years, generates approximately $140 million in net sales annually, according to The Motley Fool. 

 

The Republic bar was selected by craftbeer.com, the Brewers Association website, as one of 2020’s Great American Beer Bars. It was the only Minnesota bar selected by readers of the site. Republic (221 Cedar Ave. South) is part of the Republic Group, which includes Bar Brigade, Sandy’s Tavern and The Foxtrot Burger Spot. The criteria: “You know a great beer bar when you’re in one. There’s something about the beer menu, the food, the service, the atmosphere, and sitting shoulder to shoulder with other beer lovers who were drawn there for the same reasons,” said Jess Baker, editor-in-chief of CraftBeer.com. 

 

The Dakota in downtown Minneapolis and  Crooners Supper Club in Fridley were added to the list of the top 106 jazz clubs by Downbeat magazine. The list was included in the publication’s International Jazz Venue Guide for 2020, in the February issue.

 

For the second year in a row, Jester Concepts donated 1 percent of all sales for the month of March to Provision Community Restaurant, a pay-what-you-can community restaurant. Jester’s restaurants include Borough, Parlour, P.S. Steak, Monello and Constantine.
